Ninon de L'Enclos, de nombre Anne, fue una cortesana francesa del siglo XVII. Destacó por su aire progresista y liberal en una sociedad en la que todavía pervivían los convencionalismos, pero su entrada en la Historia mucho tiene que ver con la eterna apariencia de su rostro.
Se dice que la anciana Ninon seguía levantando pasiones entre los caballeros que la creían mujer de 20 o 30 años. Su piel, tersa y luminosa, parecía resistirse al paso del tiempo. ¿Cuál fue su secreto? Si tenemos en cuenta que el concepto de belleza en el pasado se alejaba del actual en numerosos aspectos, podremos pensar que quizás fue su extremo cuidado para alejar su piel del sol la clave de su éxito. Y es que el bronceado - tan ansiado en las sociedades occidentales hoy - era lo más odiado en el pasado. Y no solo porque la blancura cutánea estuviese relacionada con gente de alta clase, sino también por las evidentes consecuencias que el sol provocaba en la tez, como por ejemplo, avejentarla antes de tiempo. Sin embargo, este no era el gran secreto de Ninon. Según su ayudante personal, que estuvo con ella durante 50 años, Ninon utilizaba un ungüento a base de agua de rosas, cera, zumo de cebolla, aceite de almendras y  hammamelis que ponía cada noche sobre su piel. Tal ungüento podría ser el responsable de su eterna belleza, ya que el innumerable número de amantes que se le atribuyeron llegaron hasta su muerte. Puede decirse que la anciana Ninon no conoció jamás el significado de la fealdad.

Ninon de L`Enclos, named Anna, was a French courtesan in the 17th Century. She was a progressive and liberal woman who lived in a society where conventions still existed. However, her entrance into History has to do with the eternal appearance of her face.
It is said that when she was an old lady, she kept stirring passions between men because they believed she was 20 or 30 years old. Her skin was smooth, luminous and was  not affected by the passing of time. Which was her secret? If we think that the concept of "beauty"in the past was different to the current one, we can think that perhaps the secret of her success was her extreme skincare, which was based on avoiding sunbathing. In the past, tan - which is very good considered in the westerner societies nowadays - was very hated. The reason was not only that white skin was related to wealthy, but also the obvious consequences that the Sun caused into skin, such as premature aging. However, this was not the great secret of Ninon. According to her personal assistant - who lived with her for 50 years - Ninon used an ointment which was composed of rosewater, wax, onion juice, almond oil and hammamelis. Ninon used it over her face every night and it was, very possibly, the responsible of ther eternal beauty. Ninon had a great number of lovers until her death. We can say that she never knew the meaning of ugliness.
