... otros europeos llegaron a América?

La popularizada idea de que Cristóbal Colón descubrió el Nuevo Mundo parece desvancarse con los datos que, cada vez, dejan más claro que otros europeos llegaron antes: los vikingos.
Esta confirmación viene dada por los descubrimientos de asentamientos vikingos al este de Canadá; asentamientos que datan del siglo X de nuestra era o, lo que es lo mismo, unos casi 500 años anteriores  a aquel 12 de octubre de 1492.
La expedición llevada a cabo por el genovés ( de cuyo origen mucho se ha debatido) contó con el apoyo económico de los Reyes Católicos, hecho que provocó que España se convirtiese en potencia mundial tras el famoso hallazgo. Los colonos no solo inculcaron su lengua y sus costumbres, sino que también esclavizaron. Tras los españoles llegarían ingleses, franceses y portugueses. Europa dominaría aquel Nuevo Mundo que Colón había descubierto supuestamente. Con lo que no contaban era con el conocimiento de que los nórdicos, también salvajes pero con menos recursos, habían llegado antes.
Como dato curioso, se sabe que en Islandia hay varias familias que poseen un gen de origen amerindio. Las investigaciones apuntan a que este gen fue llevado allí por los vikingos.

... other Europeans arrived in America?
The popular idea that Cristopher Columbus discovered America seems to dispel due to data related to the fact that other Europeans arrived in the New World before: the Vikings.
This claim is due to the discovery of several Viking settlements in the East of Canada; settlements which date from 10th Century  A.D., or what is the same, aprox. 500 years before October 12th 1492.
The expedition led by the Genovese (whose origin is still debatable) had the economic help of the Catholic Monarchs. This fact made Spain become a world potency after the famous discovery. The colonists not only inculcated their languages and cultures, but also enslaved people.  After the Spanish, other  English, Portuguese and French colonists arrived there. Europe began to dominate  those new lands that had been discovered  supposedly by Columbus. However, they did not know that the Nordics, also savage but with less resources, had arrived in that New World before.
As a curious date, it is known that in Iceland there are several families who have an Amerindian gene. Research claims that the Vikings took an Amerindian woman to the country.
