....era vegetariano?

Fue, sin duda, uno de los genios más importantes de la Historiografía y, personalmente, uno de mis personajes históricos favoritos.
Nació en el Renacimiento italiano y vivió el tiempo de la Inquisición. Fue acusado de sodomía (término religioso relativo a la homosexualidad) y practicó, pese a la ilegalidad que representaba en el momento, la ciencia con cadáveres.
De él, mucho o poco se sabe. Según como se mire. Pero, sin duda alguna, es un personaje paradigmático. Su famosa obra "La Gioconda" guarda una serie de secretos todavía sin desvelar.
Pues bien, el Da Vinci renacentista se adelantó en siglos diseñando progresos que algún día verían la luz. Uno de esos progresos fue el ornitóptero, antepasado del actual helicóptero; una especie de máquina voladora mediante la cual Da Vinci se preguntaba : "¿Puede el hombre volar?". Su conclusión fue negativa, quizás por desconocer los avances que la ingeniería tardaría siglos en ver.
Su progreso científico también fue visible en el aspecto moral. El vegetarianismo, más habitual en nuestro tiempo que en el suyo, fue otra característica del italiano. Consideró inmoral la matanza de animales para consumo humano, declarándose así vegetariano.
En conclusión, podemos decir que, hoy en día, Leonardo Da Vinci sigue siendo uno de los hombres más estudiados de la Historia y, también, más desconocidos tanto en ciertos aspectos de su cotidianeidad como de su obra.

... was a vegetarian?
He was, undoubtedly, one of the most important genius in History and one of my favourite historical figures.
He was born in the Italian Renaissance and lived during the Inquisition period. He was accused of sodomy (religious term related to homosexuality) and practised - despite being illegal then - science by using cadavers.
We know a lot or a little about him. But, undoubtedly, he is a paradigmatic figure. His famous work,"Gioconda", keeps several secrets which are still unknown.
The Renaissance artist was ahead of his time by designing progressive inventions that someday would be real. One of these inventions was the "ornithopter", ancestor of the current helicopter; a kind of flying machine that made Da Vinci wonder: "Can the man fly?". His conclusion was negative, perhaps due to the fact that he did not know the advances that engineering would find out centuries later.
His scientific progress was also visible in his morality. Vegetarianism - more common today than before - was another of the Italian 's characteristics. He believed that killing animals for eating was inmoral and declared himself as a vegetarian.
In conclusion, we can say that, nowadays, Leonardo Da Vinci keeps being one of the most studied men in History, and also one of the most unknown, as in some aspects of his cotidian life as in his works.
