... did never catch fire?
There is a great controversy regarding Joan of Arc. Whereas some people believe in the hypothesis of a posible schizophrenia, others believe in the religious faith as a reason for her case.
Joan of Arc was a French peasant in the 15th Century, who became a heroin and, later, a saint. She lived during the Hundred Years' War between France and England and, since very young, she claimed to listen voices, coming from the church, giving her instructions about the way that France had to follow, exactly, about how to lead Dolphin Charles to his coronation in Reims. These voices identified themselves as saints.
Mental illness or religious fact, the truth is that what these voices said was what really happened.
Before reaching twenty years old, Joan was captured by the Burgundians and given to the English, who condemned her to the stake. Legend says that her heart remained intact.

¿Sabías que la emperatriz Sissí... ? / Did you know that the empress Sissi...?

Elizabeth of Austria went down in History as one of the most beautiful women in her time. The empress was aware of her beauty and not only was devoted to her long hair, but also to her body. She was tall and slim, although she was excessively thin. She even was strict with her diet and her daily exercise in order to have a slim waist. It is said that she ordered to put some beams in her rooms to do exercise. She also used all kind of moisturizers for skincare. However, in contrast to many other women of her time, she hardly ever used make up and preferred a natural look.
One of her biggest attractive points was her hair and she knew it. Therefore, she washed it every three weeks by using egg and cognac. She also used different essences. The responsible of doing this work was Fanny Angerer, her personal hairdresser. This work usually lasted several hours and even a whole day. The Sissi's agenda hinged on her haircare. Her hair reached her knees. However, she hardly ever wore it long and loose. Fanny had to realize an important work with her hairstyle. Nowadays, we can see copies of Sissi's hairstyles in Vienna's Sissi Museum.

¿Sabías por qué San Nicolás...? / Did you know why Saint Nicholas... ?

... is the real Santa Claus?
Beyond the fame that Coca - Cola gave to him, the real Santa has a remote origin. Nicholas of Bari lived in Lycia (current Turkey) during the 4th Century. He was a wealth priest belonging to an acommodate family. According to the legend, his physical appearance had nothing to do with the current one. It is said that he was tall and thin and that his image has changed thorough History. In fact, his red clothes and his white beard are characteristics given to him in Holland in the 13th Century. Later, when the Dutch moved to the United States, they will also take with themselves his "Sinterklass", translated as Santa Claus. He would became the current Santa thanks to the 20th Century and Coca - Cola.
The reason why Santa Claus is based in Saint Nicholas (who was canonized by the Church later) is due to the legend about him: generous and kind man since young who decided to share his goods with the poorest children. This fact would eternalize him forever.
Between the miracles that Saint Nicholas has supposedly made, the most recent one is the case happened during the Second World War, when in the middle of a bombing in the city of Bari, a mother lost his little son in the agony of the bombing. Hours later, the child appeared at home safe and sound. According to the child, a man who presented himself as Saint Nicholas, helped him, protected him and took him back home.

¿Sabías que Cervantes... ?/ Did you know that Cervantes...?

"El Quijote" is the first Modern novel, the most important Spanish work and the most translated and interpreted book after the Bible in the world.
Wy is it the first Modern novel? His contemporaries did not recognize it like this, and maybe, Cervantes himself neither. However, it was thus because it was the first time that it appeared a character who internalized everything what happened to him. Until then, the novel 's characters were presented as subjects of some happenings, or what is the same, the aim of the writer was to describe what happened to the character. But with "El Quijote", it appears a new method of describing the facts, directly, from the point of view of the character. In this way, with Cervantes, it appears a new way of literature; innovation arrives.
Well then, the success that the Golden Century's writer obtained through generations is not the same than the little one he obtained during his time.
Today, four hundred years later, "El Quijote" is present in the libraries of most lovers of literature. However, in that time, Cervantes did not achieve any kind of economic compensation for being the author of this marvelous work.
It is undoubtedly that Miguel de Cervantes Saavedra is in trend today and that the interpretations, adaptations and other merchandising of his work provide evident benefits, currently. Maybe, this is thus because the media has decided it or, maybe, because, as the good artists, the good writers are recognized as such too late.
As a curiosity, it is important to say that Cervantes was a captive in Argel for five years - experience that remarked notably his work - that he had not a good relationship with some contemporary writers such as Lope de Vega, and that the painting of him that we have today is merely fictious, product of the written description of his face that he did.
In 2015, researchers claimed to have found the bodily remains of Cervantes and his wife in a convent of Madrid. The truth is that the author had been buried in a nameless grave without a gravestone. Who would say, then, that the discovery of his remains four centuries later would open the newspapers of half a world?
