Es una de las joyas del prerrománico asturiano. Una auténtica maravilla de obligada visita cuando visitamos Asturias. Y es, también, Patrimonio de la Humanidad desde 1985.

Para el peregrino que viaje a Santiago de Compostela a través del Camino Primitivo, ésta es una de las paradas más bellas que encontrará en su camino.

Está situada a 4 km de Oviedo y fue fundada por Ramiro I en el siglo IX. El motivo de su fundación no fue eclesiástico, sino palatino. Se construyó como Aula Regia, es decir, como un palacio. 

Es posible que fuese transformada en iglesia en el siglo XII.

Junto a San Miguel de Lillo, la cual está situada a escasa distancia, conforman la atemporal belleza del prerrománico asturiano.

This is one of the Asturian pre-Romanesque Art's jewel. A real wonder that we must visit in Asturias. Moreover, it is a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1985.

For the pilgrim who walks towards Santiago de Compostela through the Primitive Way, this is one of the most beautiful stops that he or she will find in his/her Way.

It is located at 4km from Oviedo and was founded by Ramiro I in the 9th Century. The reason of its foundation was not ecclesiastical, but palatine. It was built as an Aula Regis, or what is the same, as a Palace.

It is possible that it was converted into a Church in the 11th Century. 

Besides San Miguel de Lillo Church, which is located at short distance, constitute the timeless beauty of the Asturian pre-Romanesque Art.
